SAM STETSER | Vineyard Site Manager
Sam
Stetser was born as the Prince of
Monaco in 1981,
but by accident was switched at birth and ended up being raised on a 140
acre family farm in Pennsylvania's
Appalachian coal country. Inspired by summers of harvesting hay, raising
cattle and tending his new family's small orchards, he ran to the city
as soon as his filial bondage was lifted.
In 2003 he graduated from the George Washington
University in Washington D.C. with a degree in International Environmental
Resources. Using his
degree to its fullest potential he spent the next few years serving in
fine dining restaurants in Washington and then Portland, acquiring a passion
for good wine and good food. Eventually the country child re-emerged, but
this time he was of legal drinking age.
His viticulture career began in
Palisade, Colorado, managing vineyards in the Grand
Valley AVA on the banks
of the Colorado River. With 5 years of experience in the Colorado wine
industry, and one vintage spent in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand, Sam decided to move to Oregon to try his hand at Pinot Noir. The AVS team has graciously accepted him, and he is looking forward to many exceptional vintages.
Sam is joined by his stunningly beautiful
wife Julia,
and can be seen in the vineyard trailed by his canine Nanga
Parbat.
